The Cosmic Smiles of Moonlit Trials

On the face of it, the Moon is rather boring.
A lumpy grey snowball, like an old man snoring.
You know what it is. Unlovable and cold.
Cratered and potholed.
Like the acne-strewn man,
So unlovable, like a mouldy old flan.

But there’s more to the Moon than meets the eye.
Look beneath the surface and you’ll see why.
It is not the black-and-white photo you see,
But a fantastical ball of astral glee.
The ugly Moon as the ugly man will make you smile,
Even though his life feels like one big cosmic trial.

You see a lonely ball of rock,
But I see someone content not to talk.
The Moon beams in solitary joy,
Glistening in modesty as if it’s a toy.
Ugly is cheap and it is ours.
It has more time to soak in the stars.

You see a surface all cratered and hideous,
But such ethereal claims are insidious.
I see a surface with stories to tell,
If only you’d listen instead of yell.
The footprints on the Moon are ever so bright.
There is endless wonder on our silvery satellite.

You see somewhere no one can live,
But it is not lifeless, if you have two hoots to give.
Each spot on this enigma tells a tale.
Some to comfort as the serene veil.
Others harsh as a wisp of tears.
Whatever the story, it’s ready for your ears.

You see moments hidden in the shade,
Its shy nature shimmers as the blade.
Hidden away on this poor old schmuck.
Its personality leaves you moonstruck.
It waxes and wanes like any life down there,
But it is illuminating if only you’d care.

You see a Moon devoid of light,
But we can only see it because it shines so bright.
The enchanting Moon reigns supreme.
Because it exists as a spectral dream.
This marble lights up the Earth below.
If only those Earthlings would let it grow.

The tranquil Moon is ugly to you,
But only as synonyms drifting without a clue.
You should give the Moon a chance,
Listen to the pearl whose wisdom can dance.
The acne-strewn man is like the luminous Moon.
Unmarkable, you say? No, it will make you swoon
